Prescription Errors: Georgia Drug Injury Attorney and Malpractice Lawyer Discusses Pharmacy Mistakes

July 28, 2011
It used to be that you knew your local pharmacist on a first name basis. Now days, just like the rest of the retail world, hometown "Mom and Pop" pharmacies have been replaced by "Big Box" retail pharmacies.

Georgia Drug injury attorney discusses prescription errors in Georgia.

While there are some advantages to “big box” retail and certainly some good pharmacists working at those “Big Box” retail pharmacies, there can also be some enormous disadvantages.  Too often in our fast paced modern day world, corporate culture dictates “Speed over safety.” Getting the prescription filled quickly takes precedent over taking the time to make sure that a prescription is filled correctly in this culture.  Sometimes this “need for speed” requires the pharmacist to take unnecessary risks. “Speed over Safety” as a culture can have devastating effects in the world of prescription drugs. Having the wrong drug or the incorrect dosage can cause serious injury and possibly death to the consumer.

Even if your pharmacy experience is not a “fast food window”, you need to know as the consumer that you can stop the pharmacist and make sure they explain your prescription to you. Also, many prescription bottles will have a short description of the physical description of the pills and paperwork describing the drug. Take a moment and check that to make sure those descriptions match the actual pill. Make sure what the pharmacist is telling you matches what your doctor told you about the medicine.  These are just a few of the ways you can protect yourself as a consumer.
