The Georgia “Super Speeder” law creates a $200.00 additional fee for those convicted of speeding at or above 75 mph on a two-lane road or 85 mph and over on any road.  This new law is contained in O.C.G.A. § 40-6-189.

Once the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) receives notification of the conviction of a “Super Speeder”, the DDS then has 30 days to mail the driver notice of an additional Super Speeder fee of $200.00. The driver, then, has 90 days from the date of the notice to pay DDS or the driver’s license will be suspended. Once the license is suspended it costs an additional $50.00 to reinstate. This notice of suspension need not be sent certified, as regular mail is legally sufficient.

The Georgia Super Speeder is in addition to any penalties imposed by the local traffic court as a result of the initial citation. The local judge does not control the “Super Speeder” process and cannot waive the Super Speeder designation on an applicable conviction.

If you receive a Georgia Super Speeder Citation, you should discuss your options with a Georgia Traffic Ticket Lawyer before you resolve your case in the local traffic court.   If you have already resolved your ticket and receive a Super Speeder notice in the mail from DDS, you need to be very careful and prompt or your license is subject to suspension. A suspended license conviction creates additional fines, penalties, potential further suspension and potential jail time.
