I was in a car accident.  What should I do?

Take Care of Yourself:  The first priority in any injury case is to take care of yourself.  It is important to follow all instructions given by your medical providers and do everything you can to get healed.

Don’t Be a Hero:  It is important that you receive treatment for your injuries as soon as possible so that you minimize the long term impact of those injuries on your life.  If you believe you need medical treatment, go see a doctor.

Gather Evidence:  The old adage of “a picture is worth a thousand words” is extremely applicable to injury cases.  Pictures should be taken of the cars, marks on the road, anything damaged by the accident, injuries, cuts, bruises, and anything that can add to the understanding of the accident.   For example, if you were rear-ended by another car and your car was sent flying off the roadway into the trees, take pictures of the marks your car left on the trees.   If possible, record video along with taking pictures.

A picture of both cars involved in a car accident can really show the total true impact of the accident.   Often both cars will be taken to the same tow yard and you can take pictures of both cars.  Pictures help the insurance adjuster, judge, or jury understand the total impact of the car crash.

A personal injury case in Georgia can take months or even years to be resolved.  Over time memories will fade, witnesses can no longer be found, and stories can change.  It is therefore very important to thoroughly preserve the story of the accident as soon as possible.  Call or Email an experienced Personal Injury Attorney who can help you determine the best course of action.  At Breakfield & Associates, Attorneys, we provide you with a free and confidential consultation to discuss your car accident case.
